Are You Proud of my Recovery?
Dear Cave Woman,
Some good things are happening lately, but I've also taken some tough hits. I'm dreaming of a stronger foundation in recovery. I need some encouragement. I’m embarrassed to ask this, but are you proud of my recovery? If so, could you tell me why?
My Dear Dreamer,
Of course, I am proud of your recovery.
I am proud of you for seeking understanding and asking important questions about addiction. You've shown courage in examining the complexities of your own experiences and emotions. Despite the challenges you've faced, you've demonstrated resilience and a desire to seek wisdom beyond cultural limitations.
You've explored the impact of community on well-being. You recognize the importance of supportive environments, and your circle of friends has grown.
You continually dare, despite some discomfort, to uncover suppressed aspects of yourself and have found hidden bits of magic. You're happier and more authentic.
Your curiosity is admirable. I love your openness to what ancient folks can bring to the table in today's world. Finding out that ADHDers had a significant impact in the past and can do so again makes a real difference in people's lives.
I am proud of your recovery, especially your determination to differentiate between cravings and survival responses. Your willingness to explore new approaches to feeling and working with all emotions shows your commitment to a new definition of health and wealth. You’re less critical of yourself which is a significant accomplishment.
You have shown strength in acknowledging the impact of your upbringing and the need for healing. By examining the role of the Survival Brain and the Unreliable Narrator, you are taking important steps towards understanding and reclaiming your own narrative. For goodness' sake, you wrote an entire book.
Remember, recovery is not a battle but a journey of self-discovery and growth. I am proud of you for embarking on this journey and for seeking help and guidance along the way. You are not alone, and I am here to support you, and all the people you support, as you navigate the challenges and seek a life filled with rich experiences, camaraderie, and wholeness.
With a million best wishes,
Cave Woman
